One Bowerman Drive #Nike #JordanBrand #Pensole

A long overdue post.

Last year, as part of the Pensole Future of Footwear class, we were treated by Dwayne Edwards to a walking tour of the Nike World Headquarters in Beaverton, Oregon. The trip was scheduled just a couple of days before the studio open gallery so not everyone went with the group as we were all doing double duty to finish our presentation boards. I was still long ways to go to finish my presentation board but there is no way I’m gonna miss this tour!

That day’s morning meeting. Discussing the schedule, some reminders and a dose of morning inspiration. it’s all about your attitude.

Arrived at the parking lot. I think we were all trying to walk fast but not too fast. #Excited.

.

The first building we went into. We went through the doors on the other side of the building and I wasn’t even aware at first where we were. Coming into the lobby it was like walking into a hall of heroes with the different Nike and Jordan Brand designers having their own “wall” that displays some of their iconic works. Dwyane noted that it was an all new display, the space was before adorned with Michael Jordan memorabilia depicting a timeline of MJ’s career. The Air Jordan line was still on display though!

In my opinion, the best designer ever.  Hey, I’m a 90’s kid.

The classy Wilson Smith.

The always thinking of new ways, the mad scientist, Leo Chang.

All were on display!

You sexy things.

That afternoon all the designers were having a social event at a local bar so there was no one in the building except for a few handful. We bumped into Howard “Mr. H” White who just paid us a visit at the Pensole studio a couple of days back. I really don’t know why but there is a strange feeling of empowerment when he is in the room. As sincere and humble as a gentleman is Mr. H. Then, Jordan Brand design director Jayson Mayden was gracious enough to wait for us and walk us in the Jordan Brand studio floor. Holy ground. We had to sign a waiver of course, as the world is not yet ready to see all the goodness we are about to see!

The group bumped into Mr. H at the Jordan Brand elevator lobby.

.

Into Jordan Brand’s near future. Y’all have to stay here outside, don’t wait up.

Simply superhuman.

You don’t know Bo.

I think the US Open just finished before the trip.

Why, hello there, Sir! Thank you.

As close to a selfie I’ll do.

All I’m gonna say is we all make mistakes. Some greater than others but who am I to judge?

“I’m staying late at the office. Working hard at climbing the corporate… err, wall?”

.

Asphalt, the sun and a hoop. The kind of game I grew up with. Well, OK. We had a make shift hoop put up on the street and played rain or shine.

Your court, your rules.

The “2” punch.

Ending the tour at the gates.

My thoughts after visiting the Nike campus: It was a surreal experience. It’s incredible to think that we were walking the same grounds that the world’s greatest athletes walked on. Unbelievable that we’re here. Also seeing the just few seats inside the Jordan Brand studio reminded me of how difficult it is to make it to the industry. Everyone will want that seat. Everyday you will need to prove yourself and everyday the world will demand your best, your determination and dedication. The journey is not for the lazy or weak of heart.
